Thai Armed Force Personnels In The Final Rehersal of The Royal Cremation For HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana

On 14 – 16 November 2008, Government will organize the Royal Cremation of HRH Princess HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana, the elder sister of MH King Bhumibol. She die early this year.

These are photos from the final rehersal of this funeral. costumes are different from the actual day because this is just a rehersal and Gen. Anupong do not want to risk all costumes get wet from the expected rain, but today the sun is shining so bright.

If you see some equipment of the troops you will notice the British Royal Guard costume. That dress is the origin of Thai Royal Guard costume because Thai Armed Force was start to transfrom from the old time army to modern western-standard armed force during the era of King Chulalongkorn. (about a hundred years ago) He hired many British officer to teach Thai officers in army and navy colleges, also put them in some commanding position until Thai personnels were in full skill. So today you will see many things and costume in Thai Armed Force are the British standard but when the time went by Thai Armed Force adapted those British things into Thai style. You can see some different from the original British dress.

The event will be held on 14 – 16 November 2008 and I think it is worth to see. If you are in Thailand at that time you can paticipates this event.

And normally, Thai Royal Guard will arrange the marching in front of The King every year around the first week of December. Troops will be dressed in the full dressing of Royal Guard and The King together with all Royal family members will join. Everyone can paticipates this event also. You can watch this VDO for a look at a glance.

We call this day a Rajawallop’s day. (The day of the friend of The King)
